We Are A Nation But We Are No Longer A People

We are a nation but we are no longer a people.

This blunt truth is becoming more apparent to more people each day.

What to do? Find people who are trustworthy, possess moral courage and sound judgment and hold them close. You will need those people going forward. As society, culture and government moves farther into division it will make the personal relationships you have with real people more valuable with each passing hour.

Somewhere along the line we lost the concept of neighbor. Ideology now determines relationship in many cases. The consequence is viewing ‘others’ as the enemy – implicitly or explicitly. We have broken apart as a culture and this is now leading us to break apart as a society. The logical end to that is to eventually break apart as a nation.

Just what it is.

Going forward in this scenario will make your actual relationships critical. The less cohesive society as a whole becomes the more important the people around you will become. Our future individual happiness will depend on our ability to look up less and look around more. Many people are currently focused on having government do what they think government should do. The efficacy of that focus is diminishing.

Future efficacy will be found in developing smaller scale personal societies that can maintain a level of coherency and civility.

I am not a prophet and do not claim to know where and how this goes – but all of the writing is on the wall that we are in for a degree of pain. Be smart about it.
